14 First-Gen Ford Thunderbirds To Headline Indy Auction

You read that right, 14 first-generation Ford Thunderbirds are being offered at Mecum’s Indy auction. The lots are all being offered as part of The Amos Minter F-Bird Collection.

For 49 years the Minter family has been restoring and selling their award winning Thunderbirds and this May they will part with an astounding 14 at auction. Even more remarkable is that the family specializes in 1955-1957 Thunderbirds aka first-generation ones and each of the 14 to cross the block in Indy are either ’55s or ’57s. Despite the same make and model of the lots, the collection is quite varied. Coupes and convertibles, AACA award winners and non, and a variety of colors for all walks of life. In fact, the diverse colorings of the cars has meant that many are just one of single digits offerings in existence in their respective colors.

It’s worth noting The Amos Minter F-Bird Collection is actually 15 cars. Sweet 15 is a 1 of 4 Phase One Supercharged Customs known to exist. The car has been restored to perfection by the Minters and has just 46 miles since restoration. It is one of the rare non-Thunderbirds to feature the 12 CI supercharged Thunderbird Special V8 engine.

See the entire collection offered by the Amos family here and be prepared to get the T-Bird of your dreams at Mecum Indy May 14-19.
