1949 Hot Rod Magazine Cover Car Going To Monterey

Few things gracing covers back in 1949 aren’t old and wrinkly these days, if even still around, but this 1936 Ford Jack Calori Coupe is an exception.

In 1949 it was on the cover of Hot Rod Magazine which would have set you back a whole twenty-five cents to cop, the magazine not the car. A 1936 Ford the car wasn’t purchased by it’s namesake Jack Calori until 1947 and after some quick custom work, even by today’s standards, the car was hitting 114.50mph in 1948 and looking good doing so. One year later with bodywork complete it would land its cover spot.

Calori would shortly after trade in the car, but it would live on through the years being maintained and toured to events across the nation. Most notably to the 2005 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance where it won the Dean Bachelor Award for ‘Most Historically Significant Hot Rod.’ It now returns to Pebble in late August to be sold at auction in Monterey where projections have it being hammered between $350,000 – $450,000.
