’56 Chevy Bel Air Resto Mod Leads KC Auction

At the midway point of Kansas City’s Mecum auction a 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air Resto Mod currently leads the diverse group of midwest offerings with a slew of cars remaining today and a full slate left to cross the block Saturday.

What’s unique about the Bel Air, besides being a classic in the Chevy canon, is that it’s a resto mod. While we certainly see a fair share of those, they’re more often than not of the muscle car variety where modern performance can make a vast difference in a car built for power and speed. Don’t get me wrong, the Bel Air is no stranger to upgrades of its own, just less common which undoubtedly played a role in getting this Chevy to its $58,300 sale price.

Undergoing a frame-off restoration this Bel Air has just 1,500 miles since its completion. It features a GM ZZ350 crate engine and Art Carr 700R4 overdrive transmission. The vibrant purple Bel Air rides on staggered US Mag wheels with 18-inch fronts and 20-inch rears out back giving it an aggressive drag stance. Certainly a star of the auction it is unlikely that this car remains in the top 5, but could maintain a top 10 spot on the weekend pending how things unfold this evening and tomorrow in Kansas City.
