Ferrari Slaying Le Mans Driven Ford GT40 To Auction

In 1966 Ford made history by dethroning Ferrari at the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans, a battle as riveting off the track as it was on.

Having been slighted by Enzo Ferrari, Henry Ford II vowed to get revenge where it would hurt him most, on the world’s biggest racing stage. In 1966 Ford would achieve just that when a trio of GT40s would capture the top three spots in the famed endurance race with this particular car finishing third. Chassis no. P/1016 was driven by the American duo Ronnie Bucknum and Dick Hutcherson who completed 348 laps en route to their podium finish.

To this day the Ferrari/Ford battle remains one of motorsports greatest stories and now a fortunate individual will have the opportunity to add their name to the record books along that of Ferrari and Ford when Chassis no. P/1016 goes to auction. The historic racer will be a part of RM Sotheby’s flagship Monterey, California auction in late August where it is estimated to sell for between $9,000,000 to $12,000,000.
