Fire Up Those Engines, One Lap Of America Starts Saturday

By now it’s a safe bet that followers of Gas Monkey Garage have heard of the annual One Lap of America event, but what exactly is it?

Having been around for several decades the One Lap of America event remains more auto-centric than other car rallies and for that reason hasn’t quite entered the mainstream as newer rallies such as the Gumball 3000. The creation of Brock Yates, founder of the Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, One Lap is a sort of sequel to the Cannonball. From Saturday, May 4th to Saturday, May 11th entrants will drive track to track earning points at each based on lap times and the team with the most points at the end wins.

Just like most other endurance events the cars are broken up into various classes and can be modified. However, they must remain street legal and on the same set of tires the entire time. This years route will take competitors, including Gas Monkey’s own Kelsey Collins and Rochelle Gotsdiner, through eight states with stops at seven tracks beginning and ending at Tire Rack in Indiana and when all said and done they will have driven 3,379 miles.
