Ford Says Farewell To Le Mans With GT Tribute Liveries

In 1966 Ford took the top three spots at the 24 Hours of Le Mans capping off the millions of dollars and countless man hours the brand was funneling into endurance racing. Fifty years later, in 2016, Ford would again take the top spot in their class at Le Mans; however, following the 24 next month Ford will cease their factory Ford GT program.

Though the current GT program has only been competing for four years now, the GT and Le Mans race have become something of racing folklore as it was the GT40 Mark II that was built to be the Ferrari slayer back in the ’60s, and would dethrone the Italian giant in 1966. In fact, the story of Ford v. Ferrari remains so interesting to this day that later this year a movie of that name starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale is being released. Though before that can happen, the factory Ford team’s four GTs will take to the French circuit one last time in their celebration liveries June 15-16 for their final 24 Hours of Le Mans.
