Inside The Build: 1963 Cadillac Coupe De Ville

It’s not too often that a nearly perfect classic rolls into the shop, at least not when Richard Rawlings is buying future builds. Spotted at a local car show and unwilling to sell at the time, Richard wasn’t going to let this low mileage find disappear easily.

With a short trip down to Hondo, Texas a deal for $25k was struck. With the perfect trifecta of- The Devil drives a Cadillac, a Coupe De Ville, and wears Prada, Richard and Russell hopped in and drove this big body Caddy back to Dallas.

The goal for this build was simple, the car as it sits could already make money so spruce it up, give it some attitude, and keep the budget low. With a $6,000 budget, and most of it going to an all-new custom interior from Emilio’s Upholstery, the Monkeys had to get crafty with what parts they already had on the shelves.

Most of the time when it comes to builds, a variety of different parts are ordered so the mechanics can determine what works best and have everything they need on hand. Over the years the shelves are filled with enough of the same product to complete 2-3 different cars. Despite the small budget, this Cadillac was still gonna have some serious attitude.

Diving right into this build, everything under the hood was kept original and powered by a newly redesigned (in 1963) 390 V8. The motor was pulled, repainted in the correct Cadillac Blue, and engine bay completely detailed.

To make this car ride like a Cadillac, an air ride system from Ridetech was installed. Paired with an air management system from Accuair, this big body boat is cruising on calm waters everywhere it goes.

Giving it the perfect stance, this ‘ 63 is sitting on one-off custom chrome 20’s and low profile whitewall tires.

Lastly, it was time for the interior to get updated and match the attitude this Cadillac has on the outside. With a completely redone interior from Emilios Upholstery in Blood Red with Black accents, this build looks as good on the inside as it does cruising down the road.

Finding the right balance of doing just enough to make a car look badass can be difficult, but when it comes to this Cadillac Gas Monkey found it.
