Jay Leno’s ’68 Bronco Wows SEMA

If this 1968 Ford Bronco could talk it would have a story or two to tell in its over 50 years of live, but none more interesting than its resurgence.

When talk show host and famed car collector Jay Leno was retiring from his Tonight Show gig fellow late night host Craig Ferguson gifted him this first-generation Bronco he was giving his pal Leno a broken-down and Bronco that he thought would be accepted as a gag gift. In a complete 180 Leno was delighted to receive this coveted model year Bronco, despite its condition, and would immediately begin planning its return to glory.

Unveiled at SEMA Tuesday the Bronco was not just returned to glory, but surpassed its original splendor. In an effort to keep the car visually traditional Leno went with “Tonight Blue” and touches of white, but I know your wonder is more what’s under the hood than on it. To give the truck some modern pickup it was given the Ford Performance 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, the same engine featured in the GT500. However, unlike the GT500 there is no automatic transmission here, but rather a TR-4050 5-speed Silver Sport transmission by TREMEC.
