Nostalgia Inducing Hemi Cuda Convertible Offered In Indy

This 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda convertible invoked nostalgia instantly. I’m sure many older than me feel the same way having had their own ties to the iconic muscle car, but for me it was the TV show Nash Bridges.

If you’re one of those people with a life or taste in shows you may have slept on the buddy cop duo of Don Johnson (Nash Bridges) and Cheech Marin (Joe Dominguez), but it’s exactly what you’re imagining. However, one of the uncredited stars of the show was Bridges’ yellow ’71 Cuda convertible which is enough to draw comparisons to this ’70 headed to auction, but in reality his onscreen Cuda began its life as a ’70. Through the course of the show upgrade after upgrade and mode after mod were made, but that’s a story for a different day. However, this 1970 headed to Mecum’s Indy auction is very near to how it rolled off the line almost 50 years ago.

The most striking element on this is either the convertible top or the color depending how much you know about the 1970 Cuda. That model year only 14 Hemi Cuda convertibles were made making this one standout to the trained eye, but to others it’s the correct High Impact FY1 Lemon Twist (similar to Bridges’) that catches the eye. Furthermore, this was one of nine with an automatic transmission. Since its early days in Canada, where it was just one of three of the vets to make their way to the nation, its rarity was recognized and it was cared for in a manner it deserved. Having undergone rotisserie restorations the car now appears as good as new resulting in it being, “honored as part of the one-time-only E-Body Hemi Convertible Invitational at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals.”

Every element of the car has been impeccably documented from every owner to restoration photos, all included in the sale. Whether a Nash Bridges fan or muscle car fan, I assume the latter, this car is bound to make someone very happy when it hammers at Mecum Indy May 14-19.
