Part rocket, part motorcycle, but fully unusual, the Pulse Autocycle.

We’re no strangers to unusual here at Gas Monkey Garage. We have to be ready for pretty much whatever sparks Richard Rawlings’ mind and interest, but this 1985 Pulse Autocycle brings a whole new meaning to unusual. Can you drive it on the street? Will it take off into the air? Does this come from the same family as whatever crashed in Roswell? Your guesses are as good as ours.

Currently for sale on eBay, this creation was designed back in the 80’s by aircraft engineer Jim Bede and estimated only a couple hundred were ever built. The rocket-like fiberglass body was built around motorcycle mechanics but with 4 wheels. If you feel a little more comfortable with this since it has 4 wheels, well, don’t. Only 3 are used at a time, given how you are turning and the road you’re on. The drivability seems as solid as a bicycle with two loose training wheels…except with a 400cc Honda engine strapped to it.

Oh and don’t think you’re getting a normal steering wheel with this contraption. A yoke steering wheel has been added along with a shifter made from a 50 cal. bullet.

Luckily, you can have a wingman tagging along with you as the Pulse Autocycle fits two. Bringing unusual full circle and completing the aesthetic is how you enter this death-trap rocket legal motorcycle. Normal doors? Psh, too mainstream. Suicide doors? a fitting name, but no. The canopy slides backward giving you the full rocket man experience.

The one being sold is listed as “one of the nicer rebuildable Pulses” the seller has had in a long time.

Lastly the listing ends with “If you don’t like attention… you’re looking at the wrong auction” and honestly we couldn’t agree more.

Up for sale with a buy it now price of $7,500 or best offer, we don’t want to tell you to buy it and be liable for whatever you do. But now you know it’s there, and whatever you do with this information, we wish you the best of luck!
