Few Things Were More Cali In The ’60s Than This Volkswagen Bus

The Volkswagen bus has been going up in price through the years and for good reason, they’re rad! However, more specifically they’ve become a symbol of a generation of peace and love having originally had their roots tied to humanities darkest hours of World War II. And no Volkswagen bus is more revered than the 23-window which ceased production in 1963, the exact year of this one headed to auction in Los Angeles, CA this weekend.

Having gone for as much as $200,000 this 1963 Volkswagen 23-Window Bus certainly has the potential to bring in big money, but certainly not to that caliper. Modern upgrades on it have removed it from the concours level payday, but then again an adjustable air ride suspension could be just what the right buyer is looking for if they plan to get out and cruise the PCH in this classic. Additionally, the bus features 17-inch Budnik wheels, horizontally-opposed 2,110cc/120 HP engine, dual carburetors and a Freeway Flyer 4-speed transmission.

In short, this final year 23-window VW is the perfect example of one restored for the owner who’s looking to give it a second life on the coastal California highways where it once found its freedom.
