Vintage Harley Auctioned, Reminder Of Motorcycles Past

To this day classic motorcycles like this 1911 Harley-Davidson 7A Single crack me up. I know you shouldn’t “judge a book by it’s cover” and all that jazz, but look at it! Really, look at it!

In 1911 I imagine a bike like this carrying a “wow” factor, it did help propel Harley to worldwide fame after all, but just imagining a stereotypical Harley rider on something like this today is comical. However, a glorified bicycle like this is not only Harley’s past these days, but also their plan for the future, though we’d much prefer this 1911 variant which just sold at Mecum’s Las Vegas motorcycle auction going on now.

The bike in question is from 1911 which carries with it a “not for road use label” which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The 435cc bike has been restored to museum quality and is representative of the first year of Harley’s with vertical cylinder head fins and a straight down tube frame. This nod to Harley-Davidson’s iconic past just fetched $44,000 in Vegas and, again, not all about looks, but a high price to pay for something that looks like a better painted bike share bike.
