This Wrecked 1987 Porsche Sold For Nearly Half A Million, I’ve Got Questions

Let’s get rid of the questions I no longer have about this 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort…

How much did it sell for?
$467,500 at Mecum’s Monterey auction this past weekend.

Why so much?
1 of 294, factory top-rated speed of 197mph and 0-60 in 3.6-seconds

What happened to the car?
Well, according to the post on Mecum it, “was being transported in a single car enclosed trailer, the trailer detached from the truck while driving on the interstate, at which time it exited the interstate and was stopped by a tree.”

Questions I need answers to…

Who wrote that copy for the ad?
“And was stopped by a tree,” you’re still selling a half-million dollar car, not recanting your buddy’s night out! [Ed note: you can see the culprit in the last picture.]

The bungee cord? Is it load-bearing? Couldn’t have popped that off the front for a picture? If no, what exactly is it holding together? Does it come with the car? Obviously it’s important.

All I can say is good thing it comes with those tools and a spare because the masochist who spent half a million on this is in for some fun!
